The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) officially resumed transmitting 40 megawatts of surplus hydroelectric power to Bangladesh on Sunday following the completion of critical repairs on regional transmission links damaged by monsoon flash floods.

The cross-border electricity trade operates under a historic 5-year tripartite agreement signed between Bangladesh, Nepal, and India. Power is wheeled through India’s transmission grid, entering Bangladesh’s Bheramara high-voltage substation.

With power originating from the Solu Khola and Kabeli B-1 runoff river projects, energy analysts view the corridor as a breakthrough precedent for multilateral clean energy grids in South Asia, paving the way for larger seasonal imports.
