The European Commission has begun phased enforcement of its Artificial Intelligence Act, inaugurating the world’s most comprehensive statutory regime governing generative AI, biometric surveillance, and autonomous algorithms.

Under the statutory rules, developers operating frontier artificial intelligence models must submit exhaustive copyright compliance summaries and risk evaluations covering national security, systemic misinformation, and cognitive bias.

Failure to adhere to algorithmic transparency directives carries punitive statutory fines of up to 35 million euros or 7 percent of global annual turnover, setting a benchmark for regulatory bodies across the world.
